DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Detroit woman charged in the stabbing murder of her 8-year-old daughter has been found competent to stand trial.

Following a three-day hearing, Judge Kenneth King has determined that 28-year-old Semeria Greene is fit to move forward.

Greene previously had been found incompetent for trial and underwent mental health exams.

Her defense attorney Cornelius Pitts plans to appeal.

Greene’s daughter, Tameria, was fatally stabbed December 30, 2012 in her house on Larned Street near downtown Detroit  –  about five weeks after court officials turned down a request by the state to remove Tameria and her siblings from the home.

An autopsy determined that the girl died of a single stab wound to the chest. Her 4-year-old brother told authorities that he witnessed the killing.

Greene’s four remaining children, ages 7, 4, 2 and 1, are in the care of Child Protective Services. The state has taken steps to terminate Greene’s parental rights.

A preliminary examination is set for Aug. 7.
